Compared with steels, these special cobalt-based hard alloys offer greater thermal and chemical resistance at temperatures up to 800°C. Their variable hard-phase content also allows wear resistance to be adjusted to the application. Powder-metallurgical production creates an exceptionally homogeneous microstructure, benefiting hard-phase distribution and component isotropy. Their oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures, improved resistance to aggressive media compared with steels and high wear resistance open up demanding applications.
Wherever wear occurs together with elevated temperatures and/or aggressive media, cobalt-based hard alloys offer application advantages over other materials:
Applications:
Tools for hot working and forming, such as in the glass industry, rolling mills and forging plants. Other applications include hot shear blades, grinding and cutting tools, protective inserts in stationary steam turbines, fittings and valves for the chemical and petrochemical industries, and shafts and bushings for seawater pumps.
